CROWN HEIGHTS — These wings are taking flight.

The popular Crown Heights wing shop Super Wings is set to open a new location next month, anchoring a brand new market for local artists and vendors built out of recycled shipping containers coming to East New York.

The reNew Lots Market is set to open in April at the intersection of New Lots and Van Sinderen avenues with four artist studios, three eateries, four home goods and jewelry shops and a tutoring center.

At the new market, Super Wings — well-known for their Caribbean-inspired wing flavors like “Trini Tamarind,” “Pineapple Jerk” and “Ginger Buff”  will unveil a new flavor just for their East New York store, something fans of their shop on Union Street and Nostrand Avenue have been waiting for, said owner Colette Burnett.

“We have a lot of customers who come from East New York to Union Street. We hear from them over and over: ‘When are you gonna come?’ You know. They’re as excited as we are,” she said.

The group behind the market, ARTS East New York, wanted Burnett to be involved from the beginning because of “her energy” and commitment to community involvement, said founder Catherine Green. Super Wings runs an internship program for young people at their store that will continue at the [re]New Lots space with all of its vendors, she said.

“The youth will have one day that they have a shift with the vendors. It’ll be a mentorship program, but also helping [them] with any extra help that they need in the spaces,” Green said.

Other vendors include an outpost of East New York’s spoken word cafe, Word Up Cafe, a studio by local graffiti artist Alexis Mena and Hidden Talents Tutoring Center, which will each operate in a ten-by-eight or twenty-by-eight metal shipping container repurposed as retail spaces or workshops.

The market will be open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays on a 9,000-square-foot former vacant lot that already has a lot of built-in hustle and bustle, Green said.

“There’s tons and tons of foot traffic. You have the bus station there, you have the [New Lots L] train. So, it’s a destination,” she said.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article stated the reNew Lots Market would open April 9. The organizers have since revised the project's timeline and have not set a specific grand opening date.
