ARROCHAR — A Staten Island man was arrested after he sped away from police who tried to pull him over for talking on his cellphone and then pretended to walk his dog before siccing the pitbull on officers, prosecutors said.

Officers tried to stop Migeul Delgado, 37, of Arrochar, who was chatting on his cell as he was driving his 2014 Ford Fusion on Reid Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Delgado sped up, ran three stop signs then jumped out of his car and nonchalantly tried to pretend he was walking his pitbull, prosecutors said.

Officers approached Delgado with his dog on McFarland and Linwood avenues and told police "F--k you, I'm walking my dog. F--k you, you can't do this it's illegal," according to court papers.

Delgado then released his dog at police, who lunged and snapped his jaws at officers, prosecutors said.

Police said they saw Delgado drop two Ziploc bags of crack and that he tried to flail his arms to avoid being arrested. A later search showed Delgado's license has been suspended.

He was charged with attempted assault, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving and resisting arrest at his arraignment Thursday, the District Attorney's office said. His bail was set at $7,500 and he's due back in court on Tuesday.

His lawyer, Tom White, had no comment for the story.

Delgado also pleaded guilty to aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle in 2013, according to online court records.

Other notable crimes in Staten Island include:

► A Target employee stole more than $2,000 worth of cellphones from the store, prosecutors said.

Robert Hawkins, 26, of The Bronx, worked as a security manager at Target on Veterans Road West, and was caught on surveillance video swiping an iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6 and Samsung Note from a storage area in the store, prosecutors said.

Hawkins put the phones in his sock, back of his pants and in his sweatshirt and walked out of the store, prosecutors said.

When he was arrested Thursday, Hawkins said he tried to return the cellphones after he took them.

"I f--ked up," he told police, according to court papers. "I took the phones. I tried to return them."

Hawkins was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and petit larceny at his arraignment Friday, the Staten Island District Attorney's office said.

Information for his lawyer was not immediately available.

► A man was arrested near his home for carrying a loaded gun and oxycodone pills, prosecutors said.

On Wednesday, John Lopez, 21, was stopped in front of his Waterbury Avenue home around 8:00 p.m. by police, who found a loaded .22 caliber handgun in his waistband, four other rounds on him and three oxycodone pills, prosecutors said.

He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of ammunition at his arraignment, according to the DA. His bail was set at $1,500 and he's due back in court on April 23, according to online court records.
