WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A 12-year-old boy was injured after being struck by a city bus Tuesday while crossing Amsterdam Avenue near 165th Street, officials said.

The boy was crossing from east to west on Amsterdam Avenue around 3:30 when he was struck by an M101 bus that was traveling south on the street, the MTA said.  Left side mirror and the front bumper on the left side of the bus struck the boy, the transit agency said.

The boy was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police and the FDNY said. There were no further details available on his condition at the time.

The accident occurred in front of Word Up Books, where volunteer working at the store witnessed the incident.

“A young kid was walking across the street and looked over his shoulder to talk to his friend,” said the volunteer, who did not want to give his name. “He ran into a very slow moving bus.”

The man estimated the bus was going about 10 miles per hour at the time.

“I happened to look up right as it was about to happen and I thought, ‘Oh no,’” he said.
