MOUNT EDEN — A construction worker suffered a serious head wound after an accident in a sewer trench on Monday, the Fire Department and an eyewitness said.

Emergency responders lifted the man, who a witness said had a bloody face, out of the ditch on a stretcher in front of 1455 Grand Concourse where he was part of a crew installing new lines, according to the FDNY.

He was taken to Lincoln Hospital in serious but stable condition.

It was unclear how the victim got injured. Fire department officials would only say that he was suffering from trauma.

Kevin Brown, who lives near the accident site, said he saw officials lifting the victim out of a trench upright on a stretcher with a badly injured head.

"His face was ripped open," he said.
