Thief Raids Parked Cars for Cash and Jewelry, Police Say

GRANITEVILLE — A man responsible for a string of car break-ins was arrested on Friday, the NYPD said.

Daniel Sokolski, a 30-year-old resident of Graniteville, broke into cars and snatched cash, jewelry and cellphones from cars parked on various streets in the borough, according to police.

Police released surveillance footage on Friday of Sokolsi using a credit card he took from one of the cars to purchase $12 worth of goods from a deli in Bay Ridge.

He was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and petit larceny, police said.

In the earliest incident, Sokolski first broke into a parked car on Longdale Street on March 3 at about 2 a.m., and took the victim's wallet, carrying $45 cash and several credits cards, police said.

The other incidents linked to the suspect include:

► Sokolski removed a North Face jacket containing $200 from a car parked on Jaffe Street on March 8 at about 11:30 a.m., police said.
 
► An undetermined amount of cash and various credit cards were taken from a car parked on Houston Street on March 9 at about 6 p.m., police said.
 
► Sokolski stole an undetermined amount of cash and credit cards from a car parked on Gloria Court on March 9 at about 7 p.m., police said.
 
► A man discovered his iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy phone and jewelry missing from his car parked on Gloria Court on March 9 at about 9 p.m., police said.
