Cabbie Being Held Up at Knifepoint Swerves Toward Police Car

MIDTOWN — A quick-thinking cabdriver being held up at knifepoint by his passenger began swerving across lanes of Midtown traffic, frantically honking his horn — drawing the attention of Port Authority police who arrested the would-be robber, officials said.

The cabbie, whose name was not released, was driving his yellow cab past Penn Station on Eighth Avenue near 36th Street around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon when Port Authority police noticed him him swerving back and forth, honking his horn frantically, officials said.

The cabbie almost smashed into a PAPD vehicle before slamming on the brakes and then leaping from the car, screaming, "He put a knife to my throat!"
