CROWN HEIGHTS — A new bar with a “1940’s Miami Beach” vibe is opening this week on Nostrand Avenue.

King Tai Bar will open on Friday, March 6 in a one-story, 900-square-foot building at 1095 Bergen St. off Nostrand Avenue that was gut renovated by co-owners Palmer Thompson-Moss and Dane Risch, they said in an email announcement.

They hope the bar will have a “1940s island vacation” feel, with chrome diner stools, ceiling fans and windows facing the neighboring 1100 Bergen Street Community Garden. The new spot was named after a Chinese-American fish restaurant that once operated in the space, they said.

The new watering hole will be open seven days a week, from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays and from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. on weekends.

As King Tai opens, two popular eateries in the neighborhood are closing.

In Prospect Heights, the farm-to-table kosher restaurant Mason & Mug announced its closing in a Facebook post this weekend. The small-plate, wine-and-beer spot had opened for business on Washington Avenue just 15 months beforehand. Its owners did not explain specifically why they are closing, saying only they “have no regrets, but have chosen to put our families first.”

Last Friday on Franklin Avenue, Pacifico’s Fine Foods closed after only eight months in business, a move that left staff "heartbroken and sad," they said in a message posted on their website. Despite positive reviews from critics and customers, the seasonal, Brazilian-influenced eatery was not financially stable, chef Shanna Pacifico told Brooklyn Magazine, and will be replaced by an Italian restaurant.
