GREENWICH VILLAGE — A manager at French Roast stole nearly $1,500 from the restaurant in a little more than a month, police said.

Police said Jai Alvarez, 36, stole $1,447.96 from the business on six separate days between Jan. 2 and Feb. 12, by changing employees' sales totals at the end of the night and pocketing the difference in cash.

Alvarez doctored 41 sales totals in all, police said.

A manager at French Roast declined to comment.

Alvarez was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, court records show. He was released without bail and is due back in court on April 7. His lawyer declined to comment.
