Man Cuts Woman's Face in Unprovoked Attack on Lower East Side, Police Say

LOWER EAST SIDE — An attacker cut a 30-year-old woman’s face during an unprovoked assault inside her apartment building on Jan. 31, police said.

The woman was heading into her apartment near Jefferson and Madison streets at about 1:25 p.m. when the man approached her and cut the right side of her face with an "unknown sharp object," according to the NYPD. The suspect fled when the victim yelled, police said.

The woman was taken to Beth Israel Hospital and released, police said.

Police released a sketch of the suspect wearing a hoodie with a scarf covering his mouth.
