Man Tells Police 'This is Why You Get Shot Out Here,' Prosecutors Say

MARINERS HARBOR — A man mimed pointing a gun at his temple and told police "This is why you get shot out here" after he was pulled over for a busted brake light on Friday, prosecutors said.

Jerome Patterson, 27, was pulled over driving his 1999 Hyundai car on the corner of Roxbury Street and Lockman Avenue on Friday around 5:16 p.m. after police noticed his right brake light was broken, according to court papers.

Patterson stepped out of the car, pointed his finger at his temple and threatened the officers, according to prosecutors. He resisted arrest by flailing his arms and grabbing on to a nearby fence, according to court papers.

Police later found a bag of cocaine in Patterson's car and that he was driving without a suspended license, court papers read.

Patterson was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance, obstructing governmental administration, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at his arraignment, according to the Richmond County District Attorney's office.

He was released without bail and is due back in court on April 23, according to online court records.

His lawyer could not be reached for comment. The arrest was first reported by the Staten Island Advance.

Other notable arrests in Staten Island include: 

► A pair used a fake gun Thursday to rob an cab driver on break of $90, prosecutors said.

Demetri Green, 22, and Natheniel Cottrell, 28, pointed the fake gun at the cab driver in front of 149 Victory Blvd. around 11 p.m. and demanded his phone and cash, according to court papers. Green and Cottrell took the victim's iPhone 5c and around $90 and fled on foot, officials said.

Police later caught up with Green and Cottrell on Jersey Street and arrested them, according to court papers.

They were charged with robbery, menacing, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property at their arraignment, according to the District Attorney's office.

Green's bail was set at $20,000 bond, $10,000 cash and is due back in court on Wednesday, according to court records. Cottrell's bail was set at $10,000 bond, $5,000 cash and he's due back in court Wednesday.

Lawyers for Green and Cottrell did not respond to request for comment.

► Police arrested a man and woman after they found 1.5 ounces of cocaine in their car Saturday, prosecutors said.

James Gross, 46, of Gravesend, and Victoria Sorrenti, 45, on New Springville were arrested on Nome Avenue after police found the bag of cocaine in Gross' car, according to court papers.

They were both charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the District Attorney's office.

Gross' bail was set at $1,000 and Sorrenti was released without bail, according to court records. Both are due back in court of Feb. 13.

Their lawyers did not respond to request for comment.
