RED HOOK — City Councilman Carlos Menchaca was removed from his position as co-chair of the Brooklyn delegation during a closed-door meeting Thursday, according to reports.

Menchaca, who represents Red Hook, Sunset Park and Greenwood Heights, was voted out by the borough council delegation in what was reportedly a coup in the Brooklyn Democratic Party.

A source confirmed that Councilman Mark Treyger was appointed co-chair of the delegation.

The delegation voted on Thursday on whether to remove both Menchaca and Councilwoman Darlene Mealy, who is also a co-chair, from their positions. Mealy was able to garner enough votes to remain in her role, Capital New York reported.

The vote comes after a tense standoff between Menchaca and Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration regarding a massive $115 million project that was slated for the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal. Menchaca did not sign off on the renovation and the city's Economic Development Council withdrew its application.

Menchaca's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
