WOODSIDE — A new nail salon is offering a Korean staple in addition to its manis and pedis.

Grace Nails sells kimchi, a fermented cabbage dish, from its Skillman Avenue location, advertising for the popular food in its window.

Owner Grace Lee said she put the sign up for Eden Kimchi soon after opening three months ago, and word has spread about the side business through the sign and word of mouth.

Her husband distributes the fermented cabbage to shops around New York City and New Jersey and keeps a supply at their apartment near the shop, she said.

It's 100 percent natural and free of MSG, the sign says — and a state official said it's also 100 percent legal.

"As long as the product is not stored in the salon we have no regulations against advertising the product in the salon," a spokesman for the Division of Licensing Services said in an email.

When customers come calling for the traditional dish, Lee grabs the gallon bucket, which goes for $20, from her home.

"A lot of Korean people live around here. I give out samples," Lee said. "A lot of international people like kimchi."

Their sales have spread by word of mouth, and the sign has brought in around 10 customers, she said.

"Mainly it's a nail shop, but this is a second focus," she said.

Manicures at the shop run $6, and they also offer pedicures and sell accessories, including jewelry.
