MELROSE — A developmentally disabled 16-year-old girl who went missing this week had been reported missing was found alive and well Thursday, police said.

Karla Garlaza, who suffers from bi-polar disorder and low cognitive function, disappeared after running out of a therapy session in The Bronx on Tuesday, police and a friend said.

On Thursday, Garlaza was recognized by an employee at the Gem Star Department Store at 1019 Southern Boulevard in The Bronx. The employee called 911 and police took Garlaza to a nearby hospital for precautionary reasons, police said.

The NYPD did not specify what time she was found.

Prior to disappearing, Garlaza had been seen at the corner of East 159th Street and Courtlandt Avenue in The Bronx at 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The Bronx Child and Family Mental Health Center, which is based at that address, declined to comment.
