MOTT HAVEN — Investigators are looking for a police impersonator armed with a bludgeon who stole a wallet and phone, according to the NYPD.

The suspect, described by police as a man between 25 and 35, went up to his 28-year-old victim and claimed to be an officer at 8:40 p.m. on Dec. 21 inside a five-story apartment building at 497 E. 138th St., according to the NYPD.

The suspect then threatened the victim with the handheld weapon, rummaged through the victim’s pockets and took out his wallet, $20 in cash and an iPhone 5S before fleeing the scene, police said.

The victim was not injured during the robbery, according to police.

Officers have described the suspect as about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with brown eyes.

A video released by police shows the suspect running out the door and down the sidewalk in blue jeans and a red ski hat with a gold design on it, a black jacket, black shoes and gray gloves.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
