THE BRONX — Forget the chicken, it's the cash at the Claremont Village Popeye's that two thieves were hungry for, according to the NYPD.

The men, who appeared to be wearing black hooded jackets and black masks in a video, broke into the fast food restaurant on East 174th Street and Vyse Avenue early in the morning on Jan. 8, police said. The men were caught on camera pushing the safe containing more than $5,000 through the rear door of the eatery.

They also allegedly stole about $600 from the registers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). You can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers' website at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting tips to CRIMES (274637), then entering “TIP577.”
