BROOKLYN — Police shot and wounded a knife-wielding man while responding to a domestic assault call in a Bushwick home Wednesday night, NYPD officials said.

The officers shot the 26-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, when he raised the knife and stepped toward them, ignoring the officers' order to drop the weapon inside 1230 Hancock St., near Wilson Avenue, about 8 p.m., police said.

The officers were responding to a report of a domestic assault in the home, which has had one prior domestic incident, an NYPD spokesman said.

The spokesman did not know what role the suspect played in the domestic incident or if anyone else was injured.

The suspect was in stable condition while being treated for a gunshot wound to his torso at Kings County Hospital, police said. Charges against him are pending, police said.

The officers were treated for tinnitus at Wyckoff hospital, officials said.
