QUEENS — Extension cords are to blame for a deadly fire that broke out in Jamaica Monday, killing a 64-year-old man and injuring his elderly mother, the FDNY said.

The blaze started at about 3:40 a.m. at a single-family house at 168-37 118th Road, near Marsden Street, in South Jamaica, authorities said.

Fire marshals determined that the cause of the fire was “accidental” and “electrical,” a spokeswoman for the Fire Department said Wednesday.

She also said that the fire began near “a home entertainment system.”

The house had no working smoke alarms, according to the FDNY.

The man, who was found in the basement, was later pronounced dead at Queens General Hospital, police said.

His 89-year-old mother, who was on the first floor, was taken to Franklin General Hospital with minor injuries and remains in stable condition, officials said.
