CHELSEA — Community Pharmacy is moving a few doors down and getting a new name, but workers said its services for people with HIV and cancer will remain the same.

The specialty pharmacy, located at 197 Eighth Ave. and West 20th Street, carries a wide array of HIV, cancer and organ transplant medications, and delivers to nearby patients and doctors. The new store at 205 Eighth Ave. will open Jan. 12, according to Walter Beaubarauth, a worker there.

“We’ll still be providing the same services, but in a better space,” said Beaubarauth. “If anything we’ll end up stocking more there.”

Previously called and owned by BioScrip, the store was acquired by Walgreens in 2012. It will now go by the name Walgreens Specialty, according to staff. Workers said current clients' records and prescriptions will move down the block and continue as usual.

The phone number and fax numbers will stay the same, according to a sign posted on the pharmacy.

“We would like to reassure you that this will be a seamless and quick transition to the new location,” the sign reads. “Our information used by prescribers to E-fax prescriptions will also remain the same. We will be contacting many doctors’ offices to inform them of our move. Please let us know if you would like us to contact yours.”

Beaubarauth said the move would not disrupt normal hours.

Chelsea and Clinton ZIP codes had some of the highest rates of HIV infection and prevalence in the city last year, according to a December report from the city's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

Walgreens’ corporate office did not respond to a request for comment.
