FORT GREENE — The holidays are officially over and dead Christmas tree season is upon us.

Take, for example, this tree on Cumberland Street — foresaken by its owner, left to tumble down an empty Brooklyn thoroughfare with its only hope being a reporter would happen by and turn its suffering into metaphor.

It's also a reminder that curbside pick-up for discarded Christmas trees began on Monday.

Also on Monday, the city issued the first snow alert of 2015 due to messy conditions predicted for early Tuesday. Starting during the morning commute, sleet, snow and 10-degree weather are set to hit the city  though only an inch of snow is likely to accumulate, according to the National Weather Service.
