BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A 68-year-old man was shot in the leg Sunday while sitting outside his Marcus Garvey Boulevard home, police said.

The victim was seated on his porch in the courtyard of Willoughby Court Apartments at 109 Marcus Garvey Blvd. when he heard multiple shots around 4:35 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

The man felt a pain in his leg, then realized he had been shot once in his left groin area, according to officials.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital.

The victim was unaware of the shooter’s identity and no immediate information was available on a suspect or suspects, police said.

“I was at home from church when all of a sudden, boom, boom, boom, boom, gunshots rung out,” said neighbor Celestine Farrow-Jones, 62.

“Everyone was just amazed,” she added. “Kids were out in the courtyard trying out all their things from Christmas, people were out there when it happened.”

Tenants are organizing an emergency meeting with the 81st Precinct on Friday to address safety in the apartment complex, neighbors said. They also plan on reaching out to elected officials to address an uptick in violent crimes.

The incident comes one week before a Jan. 4 prayer rally organized by Councilman Robert Cornegy to honor lives lost to gun violence in the neighborhood and the two NYPD officers fatally shot in Bed-Stuy earlier this month.
