ASTORIA — An NYPD officer who once earned the title of his precinct's "Cop of the Year," was arrested this week in Florida on cocaine trafficking charges, according to a police report and published reports.

The officer, Phillip Leroy, was arrested Monday after he and two others he was with allegedly purchased a kilogram of cocaine in Sunrise, Fla., according to a police report.

He was charged with cocaine trafficking, conspiracy to traffic cocaine and committing a first degree felony with a weapon, according to the police report, which said a fully loaded 9mm handgun was found under Leroy's car seat after his arrest.

Leroy worked in the 114th Precinct in Queens for about seven years, according to a source.

In 2012, he was chosen as the precinct's "Cop of the Year," according to the New York Post and a Queens Gazette article at the time, in which former Police Commissioner Ray Kelly credited the officer with making more than two dozen arrests that year.

Leroy has been suspended, the NYPD said.

He is being held in Broward County Jail in Florida. His lawyer did not immediately comment.
