NEW YORK CITY — If you’re hoping to coax yourself out of a Turkey coma with some deal-hunting, braving the rush for super sales on Black Friday is the perfect challenge.

While experts are quick to remind consumers that sales are now widely available online, and through much of December, there are certainly slashed prices waiting for you at stores throughout the city on the day after Thanksgiving. DNAinfo has put together a guide to conquering this infamous shopping day in the city.

Regardless of your shopping hit list, experts recommend dressing comfortably, staying hydrated and trying to stick to a plan of attack.

Rebecca Frey, a New York City stylist, says if you must shop on Black Friday, "sticking to less touristy, and more residential areas — even for the chains — is a better way to go. You’ll also find smaller, local shops on the way that are offering discounts.”

“Smaller shops in residential neighborhoods will still be crowded but perhaps less so, and it's a good opportunity to support a local business in the process,” she said.

It’s important to remember to just have fun on Black Friday, says personal shopper Holly Getty. There's no need to feel pressure to get the best deals, because there will be sales in stores and online for a while, she said.

Getty advises that you plan to make it a fun day with a friend, get lunch and know that “anything you miss, you will be able to grab on Cyber Monday,” she added.

If you want to succumb to the rush, from big-box retailers to smaller boutiques, we’ve rounded up some sales for the gutsy Black Friday shopper here in a map and below in list format.
