WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A livery cabdriver was shot twice outside of a public housing complex in what police are investigating as an attempted robbery, police said.

The 30-year-old male driver was shot once in the stomach and once in the chest in front of the  Rangel Houses at 159-23 Harlem River Drive shortly before midnight Wednesday, the NYPD said.

He was taken to Harlem Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The shooting happened after a dispute between the driver and two unknown male suspects, the NYPD said. One of the suspects was wearing a ski mask at the time, while the other was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, police added.

The pair fled the scene on foot, police said.

It was not clear what the suspects tried to steal from the driver, the NYPD said. There were no additional details available.
