UNION SQUARE — Cambodian sandwich shop Num Pang is opening its sixth outpost Tuesday in Union Square, the neighborhood where the chain first started.

The new location will launch at 28 E. 12th St. near University Place just across the street from the chain's very first shop, which opened on 12th Street in 2009 and was forced to close late last June so that luxury condos could be built there.

"Union Square was where it all started for us, so when we had to close our original shop to make room for a development, we knew we wanted to reopen in a new space nearby," said co-owner Ben Daitz.

"We were really lucky to find space right across the street and now a few months later, we're finally ready to open."

For its reopening on Tuesday, the eatery will be introducing a new sandwich called the Num Cubano, made with pulled pork, ham, Swiss, pickles, yellow mustard, pickled carrots, cilantro, chili mayo and toasted semolina bread.

The sandwich, which costs $9.25, will only be available at the Union Square outpost until Dec. 18.

"The Num Cubano is a fun idea we had for the opening," said co-owner Ratha Chaupoly. "My partner Ben and I love cubanos, so we thought it would be fun to put our own spin on it for a limited edition sandwich."

Num Pang is also adding a new coconut tiger shrimp salad, which comes with romaine, cabbage, bell peppers, sprouts, herbs, crushed peanuts and house dressing.

The chain's signature pulled pork, meatball and chicken sandwiches will still be on the menu. Sandwiches range in price from $8.50 to $11.75.

Num Pang has five other locations in Battery Park City, Chelsea Market, Times Square, Grand Central and Flatiron.

The Union Square location will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
