STATEN ISLAND — Borough President James Oddo wants Staten Islanders to have more facial hair.

Oddo is challenging people to grow 'staches as part of the national "Movember" campaign, which encourages men to get regular screenings and checkups at the doctors.

"There are certain things in our control when it comes to our health. We need to exercise that control," Oddo said in a statement.

"That means getting past any hesitations we have as men to go to the doctor. That means taking the time from our busy schedules to take the steps that will help us stay healthy and there for our families."

Throughout the month, Oddo pledged not to shave his facial hair and encourage other Islanders to follow suit and post selfies on social media with the hashtag #SIMovember to show off their growth.

For those who can't grow a 'stache, the BP put up fake cutouts on his website so people can take pictures with them instead.

Aside from just growing facial hair, Oddo added a men's health page on his website that includes screening tests, immunization guides and information from his director of Health and Wellness Dr. Ginny Mantello.

"We have made progress in putting into the consciousness of society the importance for women to take charge of their own health through regular screenings and other means," Oddo said.

"We have not, however, been as successful in sending the same message to men. It is appropriate to use the ‘Movember’ movement to really highlight men’s health during this month."
