Man Shoots Arrow into Car Then Cries for Grandma During Arrest: Prosecutors

TOTTENVILLE — A man fired a crossbow arrow into his neighbor's friend's car after a long-standing row — then cried for his grandma while being arrested, prosecutors said.

Jeffery Pernicka, 25, threatened to shoot his 24-year-old neighbor on Oct. 30 in front of his Richard Avenue home, on Staten Island, for making too much noise, court papers read.

"If you don't stop making noise I'm going to kill you and burn your house down," Pernicka allegedly told his neighbor, according to court papers.

A few days later, Pernicka shot a crossbow bolt into the door of the neighbor's friend's 2014 Hyundai Sonata as it drove past the corner of Cunningham Road and Hylan Boulevard shortly after 8 p.m., a law enforcement source said. The friend was inside the vehicle at the time.

He was seen by police walking into his Hylan Boulevard home with a crossbow in his hand. When they tried to arrest him he refused to be cuffed and called for his grandmother, court papers read.

"Grandma, please help," he yelled while being cuffed. "Don't let them arrest me."

Officers found mace inside Pernicka's pocket and a wrist-brace style slingshot on the floor next to his feet, court papers read.

Pernicka was charged with attempted assault, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon at his Thursday arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

His bail was set a $7,500 and he's due back in court on Nov. 12, according to court records.

Other notable arrests on Staten Island include:

►  A painter hired to do a mural sexually abused the client's 14-year-old son, prosecutors said.

William Papa, 42, of Bay Terrace, was hired to paint a mural inside a Pond Street home, but on Nov. 4 repeatedly asked the son to take off his pants, a law enforcement source said.

When the teen repeatedly refused, Papa pulled down the boy's pants and sexually abused him, court papers read.

Papa then sent a sexually explicit text messages and asked him in one message, "Are you as attracted to me as I am to you?" court papers read.

The teen's father saw Papa outside of the teen's bedroom door while he sent the messages, court papers read.

Papa was arrested inside the home and charged with sexual abuse, criminal sexual act, forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment at his arraignment on Wednesday.

His bail was set at $10,000 and he's due back in court on Monday, according to court records.

► Two men were arrested after one sold 148 oxycodone pills to the other on Wednesday, prosecutors said.

Police saw Dennis Gambino, 36, sell a bottle of pills to Anthony Cariello, 37, in front of 2477 Hylan Blvd. before 7:30 p.m., court papers read.

Officers found 148 oxycodone pills, marked "K8," in the bottle sold to Cariello, and found another 106 oxycodone and a partial alprazolam pill on Cariello, court papers read.

The pair were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance at their arraignment on Thursday, prosecutors said.

Gambino's bail was set at $20,000 and he is due back in court on Monday.

Cariello's bail was set at $1,000 and is due back in court on Monday.
