Woman Sexually Assaulted Near Columbia University, Officials Say

MANHATTAN — A man sexually assaulted a 27-year-old woman in her building near Columbia University Wednesday night, according to police and school security.

The man allegedly fondled the woman and knocked her to the ground after following her into the vestibule of her apartment building on 113th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam avenues at about 9:40 p.m. on Oct. 29, officials said.

He then tried to remove the woman’s bra before fleeing, according to the NYPD.

The woman was not seriously injured and refused medical attention at the scene.

The attacker is 25 to 35 years old and between 250 to 300 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red and orange shirt and dark jacket, police said.

It was not immediately clear if the woman is a student or employee of the university.
