FORT GREENE — A 16-year-old who initially told police that he was shot in the hand while playing basketball park next to a middle school later confessed to accidentally shooting himself at a friend's house, police said.

The teen, whose name was not released, told officers that he was on the basketball court Tuesday afternoon next to M.S. 113 Ronald Edmonds Learning Center when he heard gunshots and felt pain to his left hand, police said.

"I realized I was shot and ran home," the teen told investigators after being taken to Brooklyn Hospital by his mother around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the NYPD.

But the teen later recanted his story and told police that he actually shot himself, NYPD said.

It is unclear whether the teen is a student at M.S. 113 Ronald Edmonds Learning Center.

It was not immediately clear whose weapon the boy used or where he was when he was shot.

No one had been charged as of Wednesday morning.
