CARROLL GARDENS — A Carroll Gardens vinyl shop will host its largest sale yet with thousands of records sold for just a dollar each this weekend.
Black Gold, located at 461 Court St., will host its ninth “Gold Dig,” a sale with more than 5,000 records that the shop has been collecting for about six months, co-owner Jeff Ogiba said.
The cash-only sale, which happens twice a year, takes place from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the four-and-a-half year old shop that sells records, antiques and coffee. Black Gold will also have its regular stock of records available for purchase, with prices varying.
The genres range from freestyle and hip-hop to punk, classic jazz, blues and a good amount of indie rock, Ogiba said.
The discounted collection typically consists of doubles, promotional records or copies with slight imperfections like a crease or split in the jacket, he said.
Most of the records have never seen store shelves.
“It builds up way more quickly than people probably imagine,” Ogiba said.
While the owner said people will find interesting records throughout the day, he advises music lovers to arrive early.
“You may end up getting a record worth $50,” he said.
