UPPER WEST SIDE — A water main break on the West Side delayed Amtrak service between Penn Station and Albany on Thursday morning, city officials and the rail agency said.

Crews scrambled to find the source at a construction site on West End Avenue and West 60th Street just before 8 a.m., according to the city's Office of Emergency Management.

Water could be seen on Amtrak tracks directly under the area, OEM coordinator Steve Vasssi told DNAinfo. Though the incident held up service, it is unclear if any trains use the affected rails, Vassi added.

Two trains on the Empire Line experienced delays of up to 20 minutes around 8:15 a.m., with one leaving Penn Station for Montreal and the other headed into the city from Albany.

Normal service resumed shortly after, according to an Amtrak spokesman.

The incident temporarily shut off the water supply at a neighboring building in an effort to find the leak's origin, officials said.
