SOUTH BRONX — An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested for choking his child's mother and threatening to snap her neck after she insulted his mom, according to court documents.

Officer Peter Everette, 31, was arrested in the 40th Precinct on Tuesday around 3 a.m. and charged with strangulation, police said.

“If you disrespect my mom again, I’m going to snap your neck,” Everette told the mother of his child during the fight at Union Avenue, near East 149th Street, around 11:40 a.m. on Monday, according to the criminal complaint.

The victim suffered bruising, scratch marks and soreness to her neck, difficulty breathing and fear for her safety, court documents said.

Everette was arraigned on charges of assault, harassment, menacing and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and was released without bail, according to court documents. He and is due back in court on Thursday, November 13, according to the Bronx District Attorney's office.

The District Attorney's office did not ultimately charge him with strangulation "because in order to commit that crime, a victim would have to be in a stupor or lost consciousness, or have suffered serious physical injury," spokeswoman Terry Raskyn said in an email.

Everette's lawyer could not be reached for comment. The Patrolmen's Benevolent Association had no comment.
