STATEN ISLAND — A gunman shot a man in the head Monday night at the Berry Houses in Dongan Hills, police said.

The 20-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was shot at 235 Jefferson St., near Dongan Hills Avenue, about 8:30 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

He was rushed to Staten Island University North Hospital and was not likely to survive the shooting, a law enforcement source said.

The gunman, who had a beard with black glasses and a hooded sweater, escaped on foot and remained at large Tuesday, police said.

Police said they had a witness to the shooting and an investigation was ongoing.
