THE BRONX — Two people were seriously hurt and two families displaced when a fire tore through three Norwood buildings Wednesday morning, officials said.

The blaze started inside the three-story home at 3311 Decatur Ave., near East 209th Street, about 7:32 a.m. and spread to a vacant home and a mixed-use building on either side of it, according to FDNY and Red Cross spokesmen.

The massive fire, which was tackled by about 140 firefighters, seriously injured two people who were taken to Jacobi hospital in stable condition, FDNY officials said.

Four civilians and three firefighters were treated for minor injuries at North Central Bronx Hospital, officials said. Another three civilians refused medical attention at the scene, officials said.

Some people were forced to leap from one of the burning buildings and a 3-year-old suffered smoke inhalation, according to reports.

An FDNY spokesman could not confirm those accounts.

Two families — made up of nine adults and four children — needed emergency housing after the fire tore through their homes in 3311 Decauter Ave., a Red Cross spokesman said.

The fire was brought under control about 9:20 a.m., officials said.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
