MIDTOWN — New Jersey commuters heading into the city on NJ Transit grappled with delays Wednesday morning as maintenance work on the Hudson River tunnel overran.

Trains on the Northeast Corridor, New Jersey Coast, Morris and Essex and Montclair-Boonton lines were forced to run on just one track, causing delays of up to 30 minutes, according to the NJ Transit website.

Midtown Direct trains were diverted to Hoboken Terminal.

NJ Transit said on its Twitter feed the cause was “late running Amtrak scheduled track maintenance in the Hudson River Tunnel.”

The delays didn’t sit well with commuters who vented their frustrations over social media.

“YO @NJTRANSIT what the hell is this? No 7 o'clock or 705 and the 710 flies by. ITS 715!! It's too damn early for things to be backed up,” tweeted @katlink011.

“Thank you, NJ transit, for telling us about the half hour delays when we were halfway to NYC already. #commutingtweets,” added @AndrewLeeClark.

A NJ Transit spokesperson said service was back to normal as of 7:30 a.m.

Amtrak couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
