CROWN HEIGHTS  A 16-year-old turned himself in to police Monday trying to rape a woman in a stairwell of her Crown Heights apartment building early Saturday, police said.

Jadeocus Muhammad walked into an apartment building near Rogers Avenue and Union Street about 1 a.m. and tried talking to a 30-year-old woman, following her up three flights of stairs and then throwing her to the ground, where he beat and tried to rape her, according to the NYPD.

Surveillance footage of the incident released by police shows Muhammad repeatedly punching the woman.

Residents of the building heard the woman scream and scared Muhammad off, police said.

The teen was also charged with groping another woman shortly before attacking the 30-year-old woman, according to court documents.

Muhammad, who lives in Brownsville, turned himself in to police at the 71st Precinct stationhouse Monday night, police sources said.

He was arraigned on charges of sexual abuse, attempted criminal sex act, forcible touching and burglary, according to the Brooklyn district attorney's office.

He was held on $10,000 bond or $7,500 cash, prosecutors said.

The teen is being charged as an adult, prosecutors said. Sixteen-year-olds are usually charged as minors in the city, except in cases of particularly egregious crimes.
