Name Your Price for Running Gear From Brooklyn Clothing Line

BOERUM HILL — A new Brooklyn clothing company for runners is celebrating its launch by letting shoppers pick their own prices this week.

OnlyAtoms, which recently started selling its line of tees, shorts, capris and tank tops for urban runners, is offering a limited selection of discounted products on a sliding scale, said Beth Weinstein, the company’s founder.

Weinstein, who has been running for more than a decade, felt most branded gear lacked the essential elements for a runner — whether it’s during a marathon or while taking the subway to a restaurant — namely: being fashionable and fitting well.

“It’s not about winning. It’s not about always running faster,” said Weinstein, who lives in Boerum Hill. “Running companies are missing that message.”

The inaugural sale, which lasts till Friday, offers a list of suggested prices for products like a $56 tank top that can be purchased for between $35 and $56, according to its websiteHowever, the company won't allow you to go lower than a recommended price, Weinstein said.

OnlyAtoms’ clothes have a “Brooklyn, New York style” that she said have a better fit for men and women, unique color schemes and a lower neckline for women, in addition to being suitable for running long or short distances, Weinstein said.

“I want to go to brunch afterwards and still look kind of cute,” said Weinstein. “Not everyone wants to run in Nike.”

OnlyAtoms is manufactured in the city’s Garment District and sold online, said Weinstein, who wanted her clothes to be completely made in New York. One day she hopes to establish free running programs for underprivileged communities in New York.

A self-proclaimed “former raver in NYC,” Weinstein, who spent years working in the fashion industry, turned her attention to running 11 years ago when she joined New York Road Runners. Since then, she’s participated in races across the country, including the Burning Man 50K Ultramarathon.

“It became more of a lifestyle,” she said.
