MANHATTAN — A person was seriously hurt when a fire filled a Central Harlem public housing apartment building with smoke, the FDNY said.
The victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was in the New York Housing Authority's Abraham Lincoln Houses at 2120 Madison Ave. near East 132nd Street when fire broke out just before 8 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
The person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but in stable condition, the FDNY said. The victim's name and age were not immediately available, and it was not clear whether he or she lived in the apartment.
The fire filled the building with thick smoke, and firefighters brought the blaze under control about 8:30 a.m., the FDNY said.
There were no other reported injuries. The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
