NEW YORK CITY — If you are after a food adventure this weekend, restaurants new to the city's food scene are offering up an array of unusual items, including a burger with a waffle bun and a BLT with a Japanese-miso flavor.

The Jolly Monk at 701 Ninth Ave., in Hell's Kitchen

A bar offering waffle-wrapped burgers with Belgian beer has made its way to Ninth Avenue. The Jolly Monk opened this week with a 75-seat space and a menu that focuses on Belgian food and drink.

Red Star Sandwich Shop at 176 Smith St., in Boerum Hill

Red Star Sandwich Shop opened on Thursday with its pairing of Asian and American flavors in a "fast casual" menu. The eatery has put new spins on sandwich staples like the BLT by marinating the bacon in a miso sauce.

Cherry Izakaya at 138 N. Eighth St., in Williamsburg

The owner of the sushi restaurant and lounge Cherry in Chelsea has branched out across the East River with a new joint that also focuses on Japanese cuisine. Cherry Izakaya has a more casual vibe than its Chelsea relative, according to owner Jonathan Morr.

Washington Market Tavern at 41 Murray St., in TriBeCa

A new farm-to-table restaurant opened this week focusing on simple flavors including a dish made only with carrots that are prepared eight different ways. Washington Square Market is a two-story restaurant and many of the dishes on the menu will change with the seasons.

Obicá at 928 Broadway, in Flatiron

The global chain, Obicá, which has a menu built around mozzarella, has opened a New York City location. The 120-seat Italian restaurant will serve up cheese from the mozzarella family such as burrata, a cow’s milk cheese with heavy cream, and bufalal classica, a lower fat cheese made from buffalo milk.
