NEW YORK CITY — Dumplings made from organic meat and gelato that comes in the shape of a flower are some recent additions to the New York City food scene.

Pacifico's Fine Foods at 798A Franklin Ave. in Crown Heights

A former chef at farm-to-table restaurant Back Forty in the East Village has opened her own eatery that has an emphasis on fresh ingredients. Chef Shanna Pacifico said the menu is inspired by her Brazilian heritage and her many years working in Spain. Pacifico's Fine Foods is open for dinner seven days a week and weekend brunch will begin on Saturday, July 19.

The Coffee Shop at 203 Wilson Ave. in Bushwick

Michael Avila, who was born and raised in Bushwick, has opened a coffee shop on his native turf, serving up espresso coffee and pastries while also hosting art events. Avila spent years learning the coffee craft at I Am Coffee in the East Village.

Mimi Cheng's Dumpling at 179 Second Ave. in the East Village

A store selling Taiwanese-Chinese dumplings that are made on-site from organic ingredients opened Thursday in the East Village. Sisters Hannah and Marian Cheng are behind Mimi Cheng's Dumplings and will be filling dumplings with grass-fed and organic meats as well as organic vegetables from nearby farms. 

Amorino at 162 Eighth Ave. in Chelsea

Amorino, a store that sculpts gelato into flowers before the eyes of customers, opened its second New York location in Chelsea. Like the international chain's first shop in Greenwich Village, the Chelsea outpost will also be selling milkshakes, gelato-filled waffles and crepes.
