NEW DORP — A man who police said shot a 42-year-old in the face outside of his victim's New Dorp home was charged with murder Monday, prosecutors said.

Steven Bonfiglio, 31, of Manalapan, N.J., shot Stephen McMahon, 42, in the face outside of McMahon's home at 2703 Amboy Rd. on June 29 around 3:10 a.m., according to court papers.

The shooting left McMahon in intensive care at Staten Island University Hospital North until he died from the gunshot wound on July 1, according to court papers.

Bonfiglio was originally charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon at his first arraignment in Stapleton Criminal Court on June 30. His bail was set at $75,000.

He was arraigned again on Monday and charged with murder and manslaughter. His bail was upped to $100,000, prosecutors said.

Bonfiglio's lawyer, Louis E. Diamond, did not immediately respond to request for comments for this story.
