NEW BRIGHTON — A Staten Island man fired a bullet through a bodega window then told police he thought he was shooting a BB gun, prosecutors said.

Jaquan Allston, 22, was arrested on Monday after he shot a loaded gun, shattering the front door glass of Johnny Food and Deli Corp. at 418 Jersey St. around 3:15 a.m. while a worker was inside, court papers said.

After he was arrested Allston, of New Brighton, said he was showing off and thought he was using a BB gun, the court papers said.

"I was showing off what I thought was a BB gun, I didn't know it was a real firearm," Allston told police, according to court papers.

"I apologize for any damages and, if I have to, I will pay for the window."

Allston was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal mischief.
