Man Attacked With Baseball Bat in Financial District, Police Say

FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A man was beaten with a baseball bat and and a belt in the Financial District on Sunday when two attackers ambushed him, police said.

The 24-year-old Financial District resident was left with cuts and bruises to his head, shoulder and knee after two men battered him about 6 p.m. Sunday on the corner of Ann and Gold streets, just steps from New York Presbyterian-Lower Manhattan hospital.

After beating the man, the attackers fled in a silver BMW, police said.

Police were still investigating the crime as of Tuesday.

Other recent crimes in the 1st Precinct include:

► A man had his $3,000 bicycle stolen from outside 94 Reade St. about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, police said. The 46-year-old left his black Sirrus bike unlocked on the street for about 15 minutes. When he returned, the bike and a $300 child’s bike helmet were gone.

► A woman had her handbag stolen on Sunday at about 11 a.m. while loading groceries into her car, which was parked in front of 24 Mercer St., police said. The 50-year-old woman told police she left her handbag, which contained her $400 iPad and $120 in cash, on the ground, and when she was finished packing up the car, she realized the bag was gone. The thief charged $678 on one of the woman's credit cards, buying MetroCards, police said.

► A woman had her $200 Ralph Lauren handbag stolen from SoHo club Sway at about 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, police said. The woman left her handbag on a hook underneath the bar and when she went to grab it, it was missing. The bag contained a $900 Louis Vuitton wallet and an iPhone.
