BAYSIDE — A renowned photojournalist's collection spanning three decades in Afghanistan will be on display at Queensborough Community College, highlighting the country's cultural tradition as well as its wars.

Robert Nickelsberg has photographed for Time magazine for 25 years, and his work has appeared in other international and national publications.

He will showcase his collection of photos entitled "Afghanistan — A Distant War," a retrospective of a country he's documented since 1988.

Nickelsberg, who has had his photos shown at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography, and at the New America Foundation in New York, said it's "essential" for students to get a glimpse at Afghanistan's history, religion, music and more.

"My photographs will help them ponder how all of this applies to what they are studying and planning for the future," he said.

The exhibit opens June 19 and runs through Sept. 10, and will be displayed at the college's art gallery.
