MIDLAND BEACH — An off-duty FDNY firefighter was arrested after he choked his girlfriend's daughter outside of his Midland Beach home over the weekend, prosecutors said.

Michael McKay, 33, a firefighter for eight years, put his hands around his girlfriend's 19-year-old daughter's neck, preventing her from breathing, in front of McKay's Moreland Avenue home at 2:43 p.m. on Saturday, according to court papers.

The victim did not lose consciousness and did not suffer any injuries, court papers said.

McKay was arrested and charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and blood circulation and second-degree harassment at his arraignment on Monday, court papers said. Prosecutors did not say what sparked the incident.

McKay was released without bail, and the court issued an order of protection against him for the victim, court records show. He's due back in court on Sept. 10. Information for his lawyer was not immediately available and a woman who answered the phone hung up on a reporter who asked to speak to McKay.

A spokeswoman for the FDNY said that McKay faces a possible 30 days' suspension because of the incident.
