GREENWICH VILLAGE — Whether you're looking for a swank rooftop, a cozy backyard or some good sidewalk people-watching, the Village and SoHo have got you covered with places to soak up some sunshine with your favorite cocktail.
Greenwich Avenue is a good place to start with Fiddlesticks on one side of the street for those inclined to bask in the sun, and Wogies on the other for shade-seekers.
Fiddlesticks stocks every outdoor table with sunblock and encourages clientele to bring their dogs, even offering bowls of water for furry companions to imbibe alongside their human drinking buddies.
The kitchen is open until 11 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays, midnight on Thursdays and 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, manager Donal Byrnes said. Customers sitting outside are allowed to smoke after the kitchen closes.
A little ways northeast, Village drinkers can get a taste of Miami life amid the palm trees in one of the most affordable rooftop bar in Manhattan, Bar 13 on 13th Street.
Dion Quamina, 25, and Alex Leroy, 23, dropped in at Bar 13 for the first time one recent sunny weekday evening and appreciated the place's "calm vibe."
"Everybody's chill," Quamina said.
Quamina and Leroy were fans of the palm trees and the breezy atmosphere.
"It takes you someplace different than where you are," Leroy said.
The roof just got a brand new bar and is in the process of getting new furniture, manager Gio Geraca said. He also highlighted a makeshift stage the bar is building for acoustic performances and a wall recently painted white for projecting movies.
Smoking is allowed on the roof, and there are also two bars indoors on the building's second and third floors.
Down in NoLita, Sweet & Vicious is a popular after-work drink spot, with $7 frozen margaritas during the 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. happy hour and an airy, albeit smoker-friendly, backyard. It can get crowded later in the week.
