BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — The 34th annual Brooklyn Half Marathon is kicking off with three days of parties at the recently opened Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Runners, and their friends and family, can enjoy a beer garden, live music and food trucks at the pier that's made up of five acres of recreational space — including basketball, handball, shuffleboard, and bocce courts and a roller-skating rink.

Local food will be provided by Chickpea & Olive, PipSnacks and One Girl Cookies.

This year's record-breaking 25,000 half-marathon runners can also pick up their bibs and T-shirts at the three day event.

Brooklyn's half marathon starts at the Brooklyn Museum, and winds through the Botanical Gardens, Grand Army Plaza, Prospect Park and continues down Ocean Parkway to Coney Island where runners can celebrate their feat with hot dogs, beer and roller-coaster rides.

“The Brooklyn Half is an event that allows NYRR to fully showcase the flavorful, diverse, and energizing personality of New York City’s biggest borough,” said New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg. “From the many Pre-Party festivities, to the race itself, we are eager to share the excitement of this celebration of Brooklyn."

The pre-party takes place on May 14 and May 15 from 12:00 to 9:00 p.m. and May 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Pier 2.

The Brooklyn Half Marathon is May 17 beginning at 6:50 a.m.
