FORT GREENE — Elma Blint has a room of her own.
The Brooklyn Flea veteran, who sells custom-made jewelry, recently set up shop in a storefront at 739 Fulton St. in Fort Greene.
Blint was one of the original Flea vendors at the market’s launch in 2008. For six years, locals and tourists have frequented her stand to buy rings, necklaces and bracelets that Blint designed herself using wax molds and pure gold and silver.
But now Blint's customers can design their own jewelry.
"The new space gives me a chance to sit down with customers, talk about what they want, and design something completely original," she said. "This shop is just an extension of what I do at the Flea."
Blint plans to expand her designs to include custom engagement, wedding and other special occasion jewelry.
"A lot of people don't want to go to Tiffany's for a ring anymore," she said. "They want something local and unique."
Blint, who used to carve all of her wax molds by hand, now works with a computer-aided design (CAD) jewelry program that allows costumers to see renderings of designs on screen before they are created.
Blint’s shop will also features men's items — vintage watches, cuff links and pull chains — along with the simple, clean and timeless designs that made the Fort Greene local so popular to begin with.
“I like jewelry that you can wear every day for a long time without really thinking about it,” she said.
Blint’s shop is located in the rear space of 739 Fulton St. She can also be found Saturdays in her regular stand near the entrance of the Brooklyn Flea.
