MANHATTAN — A man was struck and killed by a Bronx-bound 5 train at the 59th Street-Lexington Avenue station Friday afternoon, officials said.
The unidentified man was lying on the tracks when paramedics arrived about 4:15 p.m., an MTA spokeswoman said.
He was declared dead at the scene, an FDNY spokeswoman said.
It was not immediately clear if the man was on the platform or on the tracks when he was hit by the train as it entered the station, the MTA spokeswoman said.
The fatality disrupted subway service during the evening rush hour.
Express 4 and 5 trains were running local from 125th Street to Grand Central in both directions, the MTA said.
Some Bronx-bound 5 trains were running on the 2 line from Nevins Street to Grand Concourse.
