WEST VILLAGE — Police are looking for a thief they say tied up and used a stun gun on a bodega employee in the Village.

The man, who has also robbed at least six other stores in Manhattan, went into the Two Friends bodega at 46 Eighth Ave. about 10:20 p.m. on May 4 and pulled out a gun, police said.

He demanded that the store employee get on the ground, then zip-tied the man's hands together and used a Taser on him multiple times, police said.

The thief made off with $1,800 in cash, seven cartons of Newport cigarettes and 29 scratch-off lottery tickets, police said.

Police got surveillance video of the suspect from the store, showing a man in glasses and a Yankees baseball cap.

The NYPD believes the same person has robbed at least six other bodegas, newsstands and grocery stores around Manhattan since Nov. 27 of last year, stealing thousands of dollars in cash, lottery tickets and Newport cigarettes.

He has previously been caught on surveillance video wearing a Chicago White Sox baseball cap, police said.

All of the other stores have been uptown, aside from an incident on Feb. 28 at Marim Candy at 381 First Ave., near Stuyvesant Town, police said. In that incident, the suspect took $3,000 in cash, police said.

Police said this is the first time the suspect has used a Taser in a robbery.

The NYPD asks that anyone with information regarding these robberies call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted online or via text message, by texting TIP577 to 274637 (CRIMES).
