CLINTON HILL — The infamous Broken Angel House has met the wrecking ball.
The church-like building, which served as the backdrop for "Dave Chappelle's Block Party," has been reduced to rubble after weeks of work.
Despite the best attempts of the previous owner, artist Arthur Wood, to save the distinctive structure — including petitons, lawsuits, and a fundraising block party — the site is set to be turned into an eight-unit condominium building.
Wood bought the property with his wife Cynthia in 1979 and built an asymmetrical wood and glass structure atop the building complete with arches and stained glass windows made from broken bottles.
The couple raised two children and continued to create art during the 27 years they spent in their home.
A 2006 fire prompted the Department of Buildings to deem the building dangerous and the Woods were evicted. Cynthia died of cancer in 2007 and the house went into foreclosure, going up for auction in March 2012, according to The Real Deal.
Owner Alex Barrett of Barrett Design and Development bought the property for $4.1 million along with the property next door, the real estate site reported.
The condos are planned for completion in 2015. It was not clear when the demolition work will be complete.
Wood did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
